Introduction
The Department of KuzhanthaiMaruthuvam (Paediatrics) of RVS Siddha Medical College and Hospital organized a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme on “Varmam Therapy for Special Children” on 13th December 2025 at the college auditorium. The programme aimed to enhance the knowledge and clinical understanding of Siddha practitioners and students regarding the therapeutic applications of Varmam therapy in managing special children with developmental and neurological conditions.
Varmam therapy is an important therapeutic modality in Siddha medicine that involves stimulation of specific vital points in the body to regulate the flow of vital energy and improve physiological functions. The CME programme focused on its role in supporting the treatment and rehabilitation of children with special needs.
Objectives of the CME
- To create awareness among medical students and practitioners about the principles of Varmam therapy.
- To understand the therapeutic application of Varmam points in managing special children.
- To improve knowledge on non-invasive Siddha approaches for neurological and developmental disorders in children.
- To promote integration of traditional Siddha therapeutic techniques in pediatric practice.
Resource Person Session
The resource person for the CME was Dr. K. Elavarasan, MD (Siddha), PGDVTMS (Varmam and Thokkanam), Former Siddha Consultant at AYUSH Wellness Clinic, New Delhi.
Dr. Elavarasan delivered an insightful lecture on the principles and clinical applications of Varmam therapy in special children. The key aspects covered in his presentation included:
- Basic concepts and classifications of Varmam points in Siddha medicine.
- Physiological significance of Varmam points and their role in maintaining the balance of vital energies.
- Therapeutic application of Varmam techniques in children with developmental disorders.
- Role of Varmam therapy in improving neuromuscular coordination and functional abilities.
- Demonstration and explanation of selected Varmam points useful in pediatric conditions.
- Importance of proper training and caution while performing Varmam therapy in children.
The session was highly interactive, and participants actively engaged in discussions and clarified their doubts regarding the clinical application of Varmam therapy.
