ORIENTATION PROGRAMME REPORT

Time: 10.00 AM to 12.30 PM
An orientation programme for the CRMI of KMCH was successfully conducted in four sessions. The programme included demonstrations and lectures on the development of Siddha System of Medicine, Varmam therapy, external therapy techniques, Siddha diagnostic methods, and therapeutic evaluation of medicinal plants. The visit concluded with a group photograph.
Session 1: Introduction Lecture (10.00 AM – 11.00 AM)
The first session commenced with an exclusive lecture delivered by Professor Dr. N. Abdul Azees. He provided an elaborate overview of the development of Siddha Medicine and explained Siddha Varmam therapy, which includes PaduVarmam, ThoduVarmam, and ThattuVarmam.
The vital Varmam points were clearly demonstrated along with their anatomical locations and therapeutic significance. He explained how stimulation of these points helps in treating diseases. A real case experience of Varmam therapy in the management of Azhal Keel Vayu was shared. A discussion was also conducted on the integration of Siddha and Allopathy systems of medicine.
Session 2: Demonstration of External Therapies (11.01 AM – 11.30 AM)
The second session was conducted in the External Therapy Unit. It began with an explanation of the basic concepts and techniques of Varmam, Ottradam, Thokkanam, and Thadaval. These therapies were demonstrated for conditions such as Azhal Keel Vayu and Kumbavatham.
The anatomical locations and significance of various Varmam points, including KaalVarmam, SirattaiVarmam, MootuVarmam, KomberiKaalam, KilappuVarmam, Kai Varmam, Sippi Mel and Keel Varmam, Puja Varmam, UllangaiVarmam, VellaiVarmam, and Manibantham were clearly demonstrated. The session concluded with an interactive discussion where participants’ doubts were clarified.
Session 3: Demonstration of Diagnostic Methods (11.31 AM – 12.00 PM)
The third session was conducted in the Clinical Laboratory. The measuring techniques of ManikadaiNool were explained in detail. The differentiation between curable and incurable disease conditions based on Siddha diagnostic principles was also discusse
Session 4: Therapeutic Evaluation of Medicinal Plants (12.01 PM – 12.30 PM)
The fourth session was conducted in the herbal garden located in front of the college. The habitat, family, taste, properties, and phytochemical constituents of various medicinal plants were explained.The medicinal uses of the following plants were discussed in detail:
- Wrightiatinctoria
- Pergulariadaemia
- Alpinia galangal
- Ecliptaprostrata
- Alternantherasessilis
- Tabernaemontanadivaricata
- Alpiniaofficinaru
- Syzygiumcumini.
Finally, the observational visit was concluded with a group photograph.
