THE STUDENTS OF SECOND PROFESSIONAL BSMS BATCH (2024 - 2026), VISITED THE NILGIRI BIOSPHERE NATURE PARK (NBNP)

The students of Second Professional BSMS Batch (2024 - 2026), RVS Siddha Medical College and Hospital, visited the Nilgiri Biosphere Nature Park (NBNP) located at Anaikatti on 27.09.2025,organised by Maruthuva Thavaraviyal (Medicinal Botany). The park, spread across 70 acres of reforested land with more than 350 native tree species, has earned several international botanical recognitions.The visit provided the students with a wonderful opportunity to explore and learn about various medicinal, endemic and threatened plants.
A knowledgeable guide accompanied the students along the stone pathways, explaining the botanical and medicinal significance of different plant species(Devil’s Tree (Alstoniascholaris), Oil-nut Tree, Annonamuricata, Indian Tree of Heaven (Ailanthus excelsa), Sandpaper Tree (Ficusexasperata)and many more species with high medicinal values.The students also spotted several deer, which added to their excitement and awareness of biodiversity conservation. The entire experience was both educational and inspiring, as it deepened the students understanding of how traditional medicinal plants draw healing power.
This field visit served as an eye-opener to the importance of preserving native plant species and highlighted the rich botanical heritage of India. The students gained practical knowledge about the therapeutic uses of medicinal plants and their role in promoting sustainable healthcare through traditional systems like Siddha medicine.
